A Shoe In

So, the actual cake.

It's meant to look like shoeboxes. I suppose I could have made the cakes to look like closed shoeboxes, but I just could not work it out in my head. Open, or slightly open shoeboxes seemed to make more sense to me.

This is the white cake. (With a chocolate "cover" because I tend to get confused as to which is which as soon as I frost the cakes. Even though I repeat it to myself about a billion times!)

Here is the chocolate cake. (With a white "cover", durr....)

One regret I have is those blank white spaces you can see between the shoes. I think that I should have filled them in with more fondant "tissue paper".

The "N" on the inside of each shoe is the first inital of the recipient.

I tried to tie the colors of the cake in with the paper that we used to make the shoe favor/decorations. Here is the scrapbook paper pack I bought.

This was such a large and unweildy cake, The Husband had to help me carry it out to the car. This is when I'm cursing the German windy staircases and a big nosey dog who always wants to see what's going on.

So did you guess the goof up with the shoes??

Two left feet!!! I discovered this fact as I was pouring the chocolate for the molds. I tried my best to disguise that fact, I don't even know if I can order a right side.

A Shoe In-Sneak Peek

There are just so many pictures that go with this cake, so I'm going to post some of the spoilers first.

So I suppose you can guess that the theme of this one was shoes.

There was a teacher retiring this year from The Kid's school, and I guess she has lots and lots of shoes.

We used this pattern from Skip to My Lou (who is fantastic, by the way!!!) to make these shoe shaped favors and table decorations.

I don't have a picture of what they looked like on the tables (hint-hint!).

I also ordered a high heel chocolate mold on ebay.
These came out so sweet!!!! Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

The white ones went on the white cake.

The chocolate ones went on the chocolate cake.

I don't know if you can tell, but there is something a little strange about these shoes.....

The actual cake tomorrow!
