Very Merry Unbirthday!

My first Alice in Wonderland cake!
This was for a 13th birthday party, and the recipient wanted it based more on the recent Tim Burton Alice than the old Disney one. Which was fine by me, except that I did not see the new one.

Unintentionally topsy turvy. Germany roads are not condusive to transporting tall cakes. At the house it was a little tipsy, but got even more "whimsical" on the car ride. I think I almost had a heart attack leaving my driveway.

But she made it, mostly in one piece. There was alot of cracking in the frosting, which I managed to smooth out a little when I got it set up.

This is the topper, which is supposed to be a tea pot. It's kind of hard to see the spout and handle.

The tea pot sits on The Hatter's hat.

Which sits on a harlequin kind of base.

Hopefully it did not fall over during the course of the party.

Whiteout!

We were snowed in this weekend so there were no cakes.

We went out on Friday to do some erands, and when we got back, the car got stuck in the driveway. Apparently Lenae someone gouged some ruts in my driveway with their car, add slippery snow to that, and even 4WD gets bogged down.

Here is an idea of how deep this snow really was by the next day.

My dog is pretty tall, her head comes up to my hip, at some points the top of the snow was brushing her belly.
So really, I don't think we could have gotten up the hill, even without Lenae's someone's assistance.

It's ok though, since there was nowhere really to go and it was nice and cozy in our house.

Besides there were things to be done.

Snowman building

Sledding

And it looks like the forecast calls for more snow to come.

As a bonus I'm completely prepared for Valentine's day. Cabin fever, so not a problem for me.

Previews

What do you think is going on here the rest of the week?

Here are some "before" pictures...

I think this is what I get for taking a week off.

Cupcake madness!

It was a banner week for cupcakes.

Pink cupcakes for the last thursday of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

A double batch of Halloween cupcakes for classroom parties.

SNOZZCUMBERS!! For The Kid's classroom BFG party.

Princess cupcakes for a birthday.

And matching Knight cupcakes for the same birthday party.

Add to all this 3 dozen assorted cupcakes for the cake walk at the school fair.

I'm well knackered!

I don't think I have anything scheduled for next weekend, and I hope I can keep it that way.

Star Wars birthday

You know how the saying goes that a doctor makes the worst patient? Well I think there should be one that goes a baker's child gets the worst cakes. Well, my child anyway.

She was happy with it so I guess all is well.

My daughter had a Star Wars themed birthday party this year, and she left the cake making up to me. At first I was going to make a R2-D2 cake (I may attempt this one for the Star Wars convention held on base in October), but the humidity put me off of that idea. Nothing worse than a melting R2.

So I scoured the internets for ideas, and came up with a lightsaber cake. Seems pretty easy right? AAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

Well, I used Rice Crispy treats for the first time, and made the actual lightsaber out of that, and covered it in fondant.

Yeah, the adults at the party had lots of fun ribbing me about the **ahem** "Size of my Schwartz".

The cake portion was made up of three 9"X13" cakes halved and stacked, and then laid end to end. They were all "rainbow" cakes frosted with buttercream icing. The Daughter does not care for fondant.

Caketastrophy!

Maybe not the best start to my cake blog, but kind of funny.

This was supposed to turn out to be a topsy turvy cake for a Tinkerbell themed party.

Well, not so much....

But still, as you can see it was not all a waste. The husband dug in before I could throw it off the back porch. It's ugly as all get out, but still tasty!

The cake I ended up delivering in the next post!
