It Gives You Wings!!

Red Bull!!

For a soccer team here. It's kind of funny that there is a kid's soccer team that picked the name "Red Bull".

There's a first time for everything I guess...

It was suprisingly easy to make. But it was so heavy, I was afraid it was going to fold in half while I was carrying it. I think I would have cried.

It's Starting To Look Alot Like...

Halloween!!

I have to say I'm a little jealous of people who have birthdays in October. What a fantastic way to celebrate. I love an excuse to get dressed up.

Anyway...

Monster Birthday Cupcakes!!!

Fun to make...

Fun to eat!

Pink on Thursdays

If you did not know already, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many of the teachers and staff at The Kid's school are participating in Pink on Thursdays. For the month of October you should wear pink to support Breast Cancer research.

The Kid's (totally awesome) teacher this year is a Breast Cancer survivor, so I made her a special pink flower pin to wear this week.

She also likes bees.

I was quite proud of myself that I thought about this before the month ended.

I used Blair Peter's tutorial on fabric flowers for the base flower, and then added the special touches. I think it is not Breast Cancer Awareness overkill, and could be worn for other occasions as well.

I might have to make one for myself.

New cake photos tomorrow!

Lego Indiana Jones!

This was really fun. Lots of work, but lots of fun too. I as I was stacking and covering the cakes with fondant I really didn't think that this was going to work out well, but it looks ok.

Using some downloads from the Lego site, I made some funny shrinky dinks to use as decorations.

I have never played the Lego Indiana Jones game, but I wanted to have bits from the movies. This was really the only one that came out.
The coal cart scene from Temple of Doom. I love the look on the Lego Willie's face.

Skulls and bones of course. Always ignore the ominous warning those provide.

And a snake, naturally.

And the giant booby trap stone.

Fun times!

Go Sharks!

The Kid is on the local swim team, and we have been going to meets alot lately. We are a very small team, we do not have our own pool, so have to practice in local pools, and so we have a limited number of swimmers. Some of these other teams we go to meets with are huge, up to three times the swimmers we have.

We also did not have a banner.

Here is what our logo looks like.

I used the smart board in The Kid's classroom and made a tracing of the outline and the outlines of the different colors in the shark.

Of course I was too eager to see if it would work out that I did not document my process like I meant to. Bummer. Anyway, I used sheets of that iron on Heat and Bond film, and ironed it to fabric of the right color. Then I cut out the color shapes of the shark, and pinned them to the corresponding fabrics, and cut those out as well. Then it was a matter of piecing it together like a puzzle, and ironing those pieces into place.

Looking good, almost done.

I then used PVC pipes to create a stand that can be taken apart and easily transported.

WE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO!!!
Now we just need a team cheer.

MARIO!

When I was in the hospital last year, my ward doctor totally looked like a Mario Brother. Even weirder, he is a French doctor in a German hospital.

Anyway....

A totally ripped off version of a Mario Bros. cake I found on a Google search.

I have no idea who/what any of these characters are, and my frosting is lumpy.

But the recipient was happy.

He is in the 4th grade at The Kid's school. I also delivered some cupcakes to his class on his actual birthday. I'm guessing he liked them because he came out into the hallway and gave me a hug. What 4th grade boy gives hugs?? Totally awesome ones, that's who!

This cake is rainbow with crusting buttercream frosting and fondant details.

Omaha Beach (sort of)

I think that this might be the very first cake I was ever paid for. It was for a little boy who loved WWII and those things military.

I had actually invisioned the cake being alot bigger, but had no way (at the time) to make it as big as I saw in my mind. There should have been much more to the cliff and the beach, but it just did not work out. The birthday boy was happy though, and spent much of the day driving the tank up and down the cake.

This was a chocolate cake covered in (store bought) buttercream frosting.
