Whiteout!

We were snowed in this weekend so there were no cakes.

We went out on Friday to do some erands, and when we got back, the car got stuck in the driveway. Apparently Lenae someone gouged some ruts in my driveway with their car, add slippery snow to that, and even 4WD gets bogged down.

Here is an idea of how deep this snow really was by the next day.

My dog is pretty tall, her head comes up to my hip, at some points the top of the snow was brushing her belly.
So really, I don't think we could have gotten up the hill, even without Lenae's someone's assistance.

It's ok though, since there was nowhere really to go and it was nice and cozy in our house.

Besides there were things to be done.

Sledding

And it looks like the forecast calls for more snow to come.

As a bonus I'm completely prepared for Valentine's day. Cabin fever, so not a problem for me.

Giddyap!

Or however you spell that...

My first cake with horses. Before this I would always convince people to change their theme, I know, that's bad. But I had no idea how I could make a horse cake, without, you know, making a HORSE cake, which I don't think I could do.

Here is a little closer image of those horses.

Apparently they are a rare breed of eyeless horses.

AVAST!!

These two pirate themed cakes are for the drama club cast party at The Kid's school. Obviously they're putting on a play about pirates. I've done a pirate themed cake in the past, these are a little more toned down.

I usually do a white and a chocolate cake for these events since there are alot of kids to feed.

This is the white cake.

This is the chocolate cake. The banner is the same one that is on their program.

It was difficult to get a good shot of the chocolate cake since it is so dark. Here is a better image of the details. Luckily The Kid had donated her Pirates of the Caribbean toys to my decorating stash, so I had some toppers I could add without having to make my own.

Movie Night

Here are some popcorn cupcakes I made for a birthday party held at the movie theatre.

I was unable to find any white and red striped paper to make the cupcake cups, so I made some out of solid red paper and used white electrical tape to create the stripes.

These are rainbow cupcakes covered in buttercream icing.

All displayed on my brand new cupcake stand.

Seeing Spots

Nice color combinations!

Luckily I was able to find round cutters in the right sizes.

Here is the inspiration for this cake. I think I was able to get the colors to match pretty well.

Sushi

How fun was this. I already had a couple cakes lined up for the same day when this request came along. At first I passed on it, but then reconsidered because it sounded like so much fun.

My scale is a bit off, I think I should have made the pieces a little bit smaller, but overall they look pretty good.

Yum, Tamago and Ebi! Also, some strange looking Temaki.

The Kid's all time favorite, Tobiko! She took one look at it and said "Tobiko cake?!" It's always a good sign when the 7 year old recognizes the object.

This picture has some Gari (picked ginger) garnish, later I added some Wasabi, but forgot to take a picture of it.

I want some real sushi now.

More Than Meets The Eye

This was my first ever Transformers cake. And while I know that it is technically possible to make an actual Transformer character out of cake, I think that is well beyond my skill level.

So I went more for an overall Transformers theme, focusing on Bumblebee.

I know that it looks like the cake is smiling, but it was supposed to look like Bumblebee's grill, I don't think it comes off so much.

I am however quite happy with the way the Autobot and Decepticon emblems look.

Add some Bumblebee figures, and all is good.

I'm also pretty proud of my flaming cake board.
